To ensure the best performance, we recommend connecting your mobile device to your in-dash display using a high-quality USB cable.
Connecting onX Hunt with compatible in-dash units allows you to change Basemaps, mark your location, and adjust your map view right from your vehicle screen.
You'll need to use the App on your mobile device for all other actions and tools.
Using onX Hunt with Apple CarPlay
You can adjust your viewing perspective, viewing area, zoom level, Basemap, and mark your location with a Waypoint from your vehicle's screen while the Hunt App is connected to CarPlay.
For everything else, including generating turn-by-turn directions with onX Navigation, you'll need to use the mobile App on your iPhone.
Connecting your iPhone to CarPlay
First, make sure your vehicle supports CarPlay. If you're unsure, contact the vehicle manufacturer.
If your vehicle supports CarPlay with a USB cable:
- Start your vehicle and ensure the vehicle display is turned on.
- Plug your USB cable into your CarPlay USB port.
- Plug the other end into your phone.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your iPhone.
If your vehicle only supports wireless CarPlay:
- Press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel.
- Make sure that your stereo is in wireless or Bluetooth mode.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on.
- Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.
- Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and select your car. Check your car manual for further information.
On some vehicle models, CarPlay Home appears automatically when you connect an iPhone. If CarPlay Home doesn’t appear, select the CarPlay logo on your vehicle’s display.
If you've connected your iPhone correctly, you can select onX Hunt from the list of available CarPlay Apps to view it on your in-dash display.
What can I do from the CarPlay unit?
You're limited to the following actions from your vehicle's display. For all other App tools, features, and actions, you'll need to use the mobile App on your iPhone.
Choose your Perspective
Tap the location indicator to re-center your location on your screen and adjust your viewing perspective from three available options.

Top down: Shows a bird's eye view with a fixed heading (the map rotates as you move).

Perspective: Tilts the map to see further ahead.

North-Up: Locks your map into a north-up orientation.
Change your Viewing Area & Basemap
Tap the pan button
to adjust your viewing area.
Use the + and – symbols to zoom in or out, and tap the directional arrows to adjust your viewing area.
- Tap Done to return to the map and re-center your map on your current location.
Tap the Settings button
to set your Basemap to Satellite, Hybrid,
or Topo.
Mark your Location
Tap the Waypoint iconto
immediately drop and save a Waypoint at your
current
location.
Every button tap drops a Waypoint that's saved to your My Content menu.
Using onX Hunt with Android Auto
You can adjust your viewing perspective, viewing area, zoom level, Basemap, mark your location, and use the search feature to generate turn-by-turn directions (with internet connectivity) from your vehicle's in-dash display.
For all other actions, features, and tools, you'll need to use the mobile App on your Android phone.
Connecting your phone to Android Auto
First, make sure your phone meets the minimum requirements for Android Auto and that your vehicle is compatible. If you're not sure, contact your vehicle's dealer or manufacturer.
Connecting to Android Auto with a USB cable:
- Start your vehicle and ensure the in-dash display is turned on.
- Plug your USB cable into your vehicle’s USB port.
- Plug the other end of the cable into your phone.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Android Auto.
Connecting to Android Auto wirelessly:
First, confirm that your vehicle is compatible with wireless Android Auto.
If your vehicle is compatible, pair your phone to Android Auto via Bluetooth:
- Start your vehicle and ensure the in-dash display is turned on.
- On your phone, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth.
- On your steering wheel, press and hold the voice command button to pair your phone.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your phone with your car via Bluetooth.
If you've connected your device properly, you can select the onX Hunt App from the list of available Android Auto Apps and view it on your in-dash display.

What can I do from the Android Auto unit?
You're limited to the following actions from your vehicle's display. For all other App tools, features, and actions, you'll need to use the mobile App on your phone or tablet.
Note: The only Map Layers visible from Android Auto units are State-specific layers, Private and Government Land layers, and the Pheasants Forever layer.

Drag your finger on the screen to adjust your viewing area, and use the + and – symbols to zoom in or out.
Tap the Settings icon
to set your Basemap to Satellite, Topo,
Hybrid,
or Roads.
Mark your Location
Tap the Waypoint icon
to save a Waypoint at your current location.
Every button tap saves a Waypoint to the My Content menu.
Get turn-by-turn Directions
Note: You'll need internet connectivity to generate turn-by-turn directions.
Tap the Search bar to find and navigate to locations and Markups you've saved while connected to Android Auto.
Tap My Content and tap a Markup or enter a location in the search bar to generate turn-by-turn directions from your in-dash display to that location.
Once you've selected a destination, tap "Navigate to" to begin.
