The Slope (Angle and Aspect) Layer contains two sub-layers that help you assess terrain before heading into the field. Slope Angle shows how steep the terrain is, and Slope Aspect shows which direction each slope faces based on cardinal direction.
Both can be toggled independently. Slope data has a resolution of 3–10 meters.

Slope Angle
Slope Angle shades terrain by steepness, letting you quickly identify grades that may affect travel or present hazard.
- Green: 20° to 25°
- Yellow: 25° to 30°
- Orange: 30° to 35°
- Red: 35° to 40°
- Purple: 40° to 45°
- Blue: 45°+
Slope Aspect
Slope Aspect shades terrain by the cardinal direction each slope faces—north, south, east, or west. This helps you identify sun-exposed versus shaded terrain, which can influence snow coverage, vegetation, and animal movement patterns.
- North-facing slopes receive less direct sunlight, hold snow longer, and tend to stay cooler.
- South-facing slopes receive more direct sunlight, warm up faster, and often have different vegetation and earlier green-up.
- East-facing slopes receive morning sun.
- West-facing slopes receive afternoon sun.
