1. Missing content after reinstalling the app
If you recently reinstalled the onX Hunt app and are using app version 26.29.0+, some of your saved markups may not be showing up. Please be assured that this is just a display issue, and none of your content has been lost.

2. Waypoints created while offline
If you've created a waypoint while offline, it may not save properly once you're back online. To be safe, please wait until you're reconnected and can confirm the waypoint has saved before making any edits to it.

We're working quickly to resolve both issues and appreciate your patience.

Essential Map Layers: Private Lands, Government Lands, and Hunting Units

onX Hunt turns on these three layers by default the first time you launch the App. Learn how to turn Map Layers on and off.

Private land boundary lines in onX Hunt Red lines — private land borders. Learn about the Private Lands layer.
Government land shading in onX Hunt Shaded areas — government lands. Learn about the Government Lands layer.

Hiking trails

Hiking trail information is split across three layers: Hiking Trails, Trail Slope, and Trail Mileage. Learn more about the Hiking Trails layers.

Trail slope color coding in onX Hunt Green to red gradient — trail slope. Green indicates a flat, easy grade; red indicates a steep, difficult grade.
Trail mileage markers in onX Hunt White numbers with red borders — trail mileage from one point to the next.
Trail start and end point markers in onX Hunt White circles with red borders — trail start and end points.

Highways and roads

Symbol Meaning
Interstate highway line style in onX Hunt Dark yellow line — interstate highway.
State highway line style in onX Hunt Light yellow line — state highway.
Side street line style in onX Hunt Solid grey line — side street.
Two-track or 4x4 trail line style in onX Hunt Double-dashed thick line — two-track or 4x4 trail.
Dirt or gravel road line style in onX Hunt Single-dashed or thin double-dashed line — dirt or gravel road.

Recreation sites

These are the most common recreation site icons, but there are many more denoting campsites, campgrounds, springs, guzzlers, and other features. Tap any icon on your map to find out what it represents. You can turn Recreation Sites on or off in the Roads, Trails & Rec folder in the Map Layers menu. Learn how to use the Map Layers menu.
