Basemaps provide the foundational view of your map—Satellite, Topo, or Hybrid—while Map Layers add valuable info like public and private land ownership, hunting units, trails, and more.
Premium and Premium+ users can view one or two state-specific layer collections and all general layers except for Slope Angle/Slope Aspect.
Elite users have access to all map layers.
Using Map Layers in onX Hunt
Click or tap the Map Layers Button to open the Map Layers Menu.
Click or tap the toggle buttons to turn the map layers for Government Land, Private Land, or areas identified as Possible Access on or off from the App or Web Map.
Swipe up to view and scroll through all available layer collections, and click or tap one to view which map layers are turned on.
- Click or tap "Details" to view more information about a map layer.
If you have an Elite onX Hunt Membership, turn on additional states by scrolling down and selecting the related toggle buttons.
Once turned on, state-specific layer collections are displayed beneath the Gov Lands, Private Land, and Possible Access layers.
Note: we recommend turning on no more than five states at a time. If you experience poor app performance, try turning any unnecessary map layers off.
Sublayers
A layer icon displayed for a particular map layer shows you that there are additional sublayers available that show different boundaries based on your selection.
For example, sublayers can show you species-specific hunting units for your state.
Click or tap a layer with a "View options" subtitle to scroll through its sublayers, and use the corresponding toggle button to select one.

Access Note—It’s up to the hunter to know where you stand, but onX Hunt can help.
We aim to provide you with key information for planning your hunt, as well as guidance on how to use that information to find areas to hunt. Keep in mind that government-owned properties aren't always publicly accessible and may be subject to special restrictions, so it’s best to check with the managing agency and always obey posted signage.
Roads displayed on the map may include state, county, and private roads and do not connote public access. Tap on the property to find the managing agency (e.g. Bureau of Land Management, National Forest, etc) that can answer your access questions.
