Basemaps provide the foundational view of your map—Satellite, Topo, or Hybrid—while Map Layers add valuable info like public and private land ownership, hunting units, trails, and more.
Elite users have access to all State and General layers.
Premium users have access to either one or two State layer collections and all General layers except for Slope Angle/Slope Aspect.

Using State-specific Map Layers
Your Membership level determines which State Layer collections you can access.
To view Map Layers in the Hunt App:
- Tap the Map Layers button.
- Any active state layers are listed first.
- Tap a state collection to see available Layers.
- Tap Details to preview how a Layer appears on the map.
If you don’t see your state at the top of the list:
- Scroll down in the Layers menu.
- Tap the toggle next to your desired state to activate it.
- For Elite Members: Turn on additional state collections to view Layers from other states—this isn't done by default.
Using General Map Layers
All General Map Layers are available with any paid Membership (with the exception of the Slope Angle/Aspect Layers) and are listed underneath any State collections you've turned on.
Sublayers
A layer icon displayed for a particular Map Layer shows you there are additional "sublayers" available.
- Tap View Options and use the sliders to turn specific sublayers on or off.
This helps you customize the map to your exact needs, like toggling between species-specific management units.

Access Note—It’s up to the hunter to know where you stand, but onX Hunt can help.
We aim to provide you with key information for planning your hunt, as well as guidance on how to use that information to find areas to hunt. Keep in mind that government-owned properties aren't always publicly accessible and may be subject to special restrictions, so it’s best to check with the managing agency and always obey posted signage.
Roads displayed on the map may include state, county, and private roads and do not connote public access. Tap on the property to find the managing agency (e.g. Bureau of Land Management, National Forest, etc) that can answer your access questions.
