onX Hunt uses your mobile device's built-in GPS and digital compass to show where you are and which direction you're facing. The GPS chip pinpoints your location using satellite signals even when offline, while the compass uses your phone's sensors to orient the map relative to True North.
Note: Your location in the onX Hunt Web Map is approximated based on internet activity hubs in your area—not your real-time GPS location.
How to view your location
Use the Location button in the lower-right corner of the map screen to center the map on your current location. Tapping it cycles through two modes:
- First tap: centers the map on your current location and follows you as you move.
- Second tap: rotates the map to match your heading. A blue sight cone shows your direction and a compass appears in the upper-right corner.
Tap the Compass icon to return to north-up orientation at any time.
Note: If you manually adjust the map view, the App won't follow your movement until you tap the Location button again.
