Use Wind Direction on Waypoints to find the best approach to an area while remaining downwind. Use it alongside the Wind Calendar to view forecasted conditions and anticipate wind patterns in a target area.
Setting Wind Direction on Waypoints
Tap any Waypoint on your map to open its info card. Swipe the menu up to view Waypoint Tools and tap Wind Direction to enable it.
When enabled, tap the toggle to turn Wind Direction off. To remove it entirely, tap Edit on the Wind Direction Waypoint tool and tap the trash icon.
Current Wind
Current Wind displays the reported wind speed and direction above the Waypoint on your map as a black oval. For example, "2 SW" indicates a wind speed of 2 MPH out of the southwest.
Optimal Wind
Optimal Wind color-codes wind direction across your Waypoints so you can quickly see which approach angles have favorable conditions for a given target area.
- Tap a Waypoint and select Optimal Wind from the Wind Direction menu.
- Choose up to seven wind directions based on where your target area is relative to the Waypoint.
- Tap Apply.
Each Waypoint is then color-coded based on current conditions:
- Green (Good): wind is carrying your scent away from the target area.
- Yellow (OK): wind is mostly in your favor.
- Red (Bad): wind is blowing toward the target area.
Using the Wind Calendar
The Wind Calendar shows forecasted wind speed and direction for all Waypoints with Wind Direction enabled.
To view forecasted conditions for a single Waypoint, tap it and select Wind Calendar from the options at the top of the info card.
To view forecasted conditions for multiple Waypoints:
- Open the Tools menu and tap Wind Calendar.
- Tap Only show waypoints on the map to filter to Waypoints visible in your current map view.
- Tap a specific date at the top of the menu to view forecasted conditions at sunrise, midday, and sunset for each listed Waypoint.
Troubleshooting wind data
Wind Direction is determined by conditions at the nearest weather station. If a Waypoint shows "Offline" in the bubble above it or in the Wind Calendar, the nearest station isn't currently reporting due to a network error or other issue. There's no fix on your end—the station will need to come back online before conditions can be reported for that area.
