Use Wind Direction on Waypoints to find the best approach to an area while remaining downwind.
Use this in conjunction with the Wind Calendar to view forecasted wind conditions and anticipate wind and weather patterns in a target area.
Wind data requires internet connectivity—check conditions before losing service.
Setting Wind Direction on Waypoints
Tap or click on any Waypoint on your map from the Hunt App or Web Map to turn on wind conditions for a Waypoint.
Swipe the menu up (if you're using the mobile App) to view Waypoint Tools and tap Wind Direction.
When enabled, tap the toggle to turn Wind Direction off.
Tap Edit on the Wind Direction Waypoint tool and tap the trashcan icon to remove Wind Direction completely.
Current Wind
Current Wind displays the current reported wind above the Waypoint on your map with a black oval.
- For example, "2 SW" indicates a windspeed of 2 MPH out of the southwest.
Optimal Wind
Optimal Wind color codes wind direction based on your selection so that you can quickly see which Waypoints have favorable wind conditions based on a target area.
- Select Optimal Wind from the Wind Direction menu.
- Choose up to seven directions.
- Tap Apply.
For example, if an area of interest is to the Southeast of a Waypoint, select Southeast.
The wind reported for the Waypoints is color-coded to let you easily see if conditions are favorable based on the current reported wind speed and direction.
- Green (Good): Wind is carrying your scent away from the target area.
- Yellow (OK): Wind is mostly in your favor.
- Red (Bad): Wind is blowing toward the target area.
Using the Wind Calendar
The Wind Calendar shows the forecasted wind speed and direction for all Waypoints with Wind Direction turned on.
Click or tap a Waypoint and select Wind Calendar from the options at the top of the menu to view forecasted conditions for a single Waypoint.
To view forecasted wind for multiple waypoints, access the Wind Calendar from the Tools menu in the onX Hunt App or Web Map.
- Open the Tools menu.
- Tap Wind Calendar.
- Tap Only show waypoints on the map to only list data for Waypoints visible on your map.
Tap on a specific date at the top of the menu to view forecasted wind conditions at sunrise, midday, and sunset for the listed Waypoint(s).
Wind Direction is determined by wind conditions at nearby weather stations.
If a Waypoint shows "Offline" in the bubble above your Waypoint or Wind Calendar, this means the station nearest to that Waypoint isn't currently working due to a network error or other issue.
Unfortunately, there's no fix for this—the related weather station will need to come back online before wind or weather conditions can be reported for that area.
