If your location isn't showing correctly in onX Hunt or the Tracker isn't working as expected, the issue is almost always related to location permission settings on your device. This article covers how to fix location issues on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the onX Hunt Web Map.
Location issues on iPhone and iPad
1. Turn on location services
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and make sure Location Services is turned on.
2. Give the onX Hunt App permission to use your location
In the Location Services menu, scroll down and tap onX Hunt. Set Allow Location Access to Always and make sure Precise Location is turned on.
3. Turn off Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode reduces location accuracy. Go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode.
4. Reset location and privacy
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. This resets all location permissions and prompts apps to request access again.
5. Reboot your device with location services off
Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and turn Location Services off. Power your device off and back on, then return to Location Services and turn them back on. Open the onX Hunt App and check your location.
6. Test your device's GPS receiver
If your location is still inaccurate after trying the steps above, there may be a hardware issue with your device's GPS receiver. Download the GPS tester app to check your receiver's accuracy. If the GPS tester shows an inaccurate location, contact your device manufacturer or carrier.
Location issues on Android
1. Turn on location services
Go to Settings > Location and make sure Location is turned on.
2. Give the onX Hunt App permission to use your location
Go to Settings > Location > App permissions, scroll down and tap onX Hunt, and set Location Access to Allow or Allow while using the App.
3. Allow the onX Hunt App to use battery in the background
Go to Settings > Apps > onX Hunt > Battery and set battery usage to Unrestricted.
4. Turn off Battery Saver and Adaptive Battery
Go to Settings > Battery and turn off Power Saver and Adaptive Battery. You may need to look in More Battery Settings to find Adaptive Battery.
Location issues on the onX Hunt Web Map
If your location isn't showing correctly on the Web Map, it's not a bug—the Web Map determines your location using internet traffic routing rather than GPS, which means it can only approximate your location based on nearby network hubs. Users in remote or rural areas tend to get less accurate results.
For accurate GPS tracking, use the onX Hunt App on your mobile device instead.
If your location isn't appearing on the Web Map at all, make sure your browser has permission to access your location:
- Google Chrome location settings
- Microsoft Edge location settings
- Safari location settings
- Mozilla Firefox location settings
If your location is showing but appears inaccurate, try clearing your browser history and reloading the page:
