If the compass in the onX Hunt App isn't pointing in the right direction or your orientation seems off, the issue is usually related to your device's magnetometer—the sensor that measures magnetic fields and determines which direction you're facing. This article covers how to recalibrate the compass on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
Tip: Magnetic phone cases (including MagSafe cases), external battery packs, and other magnets near your device can disrupt the magnetometer. Try removing these items first before recalibrating.
Fix the compass on iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings and tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Location Services > System Services.
- Make sure Compass Calibration is turned on.
Fix the compass on Android
Open Google Maps and move your phone in a figure-eight motion until the compass calibrates. You should only need to do this a few times.
When calibrated, the blue location dot's directional indicator will narrow and point in the correct direction.
